Shopping Agony and a Cheap Haircut

Last week after admitting to myself that my hair was nothing more than a ratty ponytail I decided to get it cut. I took my chances and went back to the hair school, because spending lots of money on my mop is just not what I want to do. This time I made sure the stylist was aware that I didn't want my bangs to start back by my ears. She agreed that my bangs were really deep. Yea, I know.

I also asked for a partial foil, which is when they highlight just the top and sides of your hair. This is much cheaper than getting the whole head done and I discovered the school assigns you a student with more experience when you come in with something more complicated than a haircut.

$32.00 is what I paid for a cut, foil and style. HELLOOOOOO, that is so CHEAP!!!

I took my two little boys with me and they sat for two hours watching me get beautified. I told them I would get them a treat if they were good. My seven year old said, "Mom I don't want a treat, they don't last. I want a new toy."

I've never heard any of my children have that sort of reasoning skills. He is obviously brilliant and who am I to deny his logistic abilities? Or, he knows how to work his mom.

So, off to Target we went.

I have not been in Target for MONTHS!!!

I couldn't help roaming up and down all the isles. They had quilts on sale. At one point I was staring at a twin sized quilt in my hand and had completely redecorated my oldest son's room in my head. It was going to be WONDERFUL! Charcoal with a bit of turquoise and and white to set off all his red St. Louis Cardinals memorabilia. He would love it and love me more for bringing it all home.

I stood there pondering the lovliness of it all for a few moments. Then reality jarred me to my senses and threw a big bucket of guilt on my head.

I put the quilt back on the shelf. With a heavy sigh I remembered his comforter is just fine. He doesn't want or need new bedding. He hasn't asked to change his room. Most importantly remodeling his room IS NOT IN THE FRICKIN' BUDGET!!!!

DAMN RAMSEY! DAMN RAMSEY! DAMN RAAAAAAAAAAMSEY!!!!!!!!

My heart was racing and I felt my hands get sweaty. I was going through some serious Target withdraw. I left the store with two small Lego toys that were well earned and a serious case of Shopper's Agony.

This staying focused business SUCKS!

My new moto: STAY BACK TARGET IS CRACK
I'm having it tattooed on my my knuckles tomorrow.

You can really save a lot of money if you never, ever leave the house or look in a mirror.

Love your new motto! I also got a smokin' new do at the hair school last month. Oh, yeah, cheap rules!

My sympathys go out to you! I will continue the war chant up here in Wisconsin! I really wanted to see a pic of the new doo, tho! $32 dollars! I haven't had my hair professionally cut since child number 2, all in the spirit of "save money".

I have to stay away as well. I don't do cash (I should but it flies out of my wallet like sand in a hurricane) but do use my debit. Unfortunately, I have money to buy those things I don't need. UGH!

I thought your hair looked different on your sister's blog post.

And....
those quilts are made in CHINA and very poorly so. The stitches are big enough to snag a toenail.
You are a country farm girl now and should be making your own anyway. Scraps quilts cost almost nothing.

The ONLY way to save money is NEVER to enter a store. :(

Boys simply don't care what their rooms look like, and you know that, April my girl!

If you are going to have Target withdrawal symptoms, choose something better! What, there wasn't a wall thingy that would look perfect in your kitchen, or a sweater, or a marked-down bag or something??

That was kind of pathetic...I can tell you really hadn't gone there in a long time! Silly.

Ok, but WHAT ABOUT THE HAIRCUT????

Seriiously we want to see what you look like now...

......or is there a REASON you haven't posted a picture yet?

A tatoo probably isn't in the budget either. Damn Ramseyyyyyyy!

I too ventured into Target (my boyfriend) the other day, after several months of abstaining. Lucky for me the clearance and $1.00 aisles were all duds, so I walked out with nothing more than a personal pan pizza. Which was my one-day-per-week lunch treat. I was pretty proud of myself, but then again I didn't look at the quilts. And I love me some quilts.

just got back from Target. I loaded up the cart with a bunch of stuff THAT. I. MUST. HAVE. RIGHT NOW. and then I came to my senses and put all of it back. We left with some hand soap refills and iron-on patches for my son's jeans. Damn Ramsey! indeed. And a big thank you for inflicting him on me. ;)

i'm with clayvessel here. how come no pictures? and now that you're a frugal country wife, you should be making your own quilts. (after you paint your dining room chairs, that is!)

So are we going to get to see the NEW YOU?

I stay out of Target too. It is crack. I went to the Squalmart to pick up some cleaning supplies and wandered through their cooking utensils. I talked myself out of a $10.00 pizza cutter that I don't need and a set of Pizza pans. The cookie sheet I'm using works just fine and you can cut homemade pizza with a knife.

Someday I'm going to thank Dave but right now I'm too busy pouting.

Good motto. Target is crack, and I'm addicted. I have to force myself to stay away. Good job emptying your cart. It takes a strong woman to let it go.

Target is like Tequila ... I get all goofy if I go overboard and live with major regret the next day.

I am making a quilt out of old denim scraps. Feels better than buying it at Target. Plus I can pass it down to my kids and guilt them for the rest of their lives if they ever want to get rid of it.

I am too nervous to try a doo at the hair school. You'll have to post a photo to prove that it all turns out ok. At least the second time.

Did I miss the picture or your new haircut? Huh? NO TATTOOS. They will go out of style , they are kinda permanent, and I hear they are painful to have removed. And ugly. Did I mention ugly!!!! You can do the budget thing! And I thought his name was Dave, not Damn????? LOL

Target is totally crack! I can walk around in there for hours and just window shop.

LOL LOL I hope you dont copyright that because I need to do the same thing. I drive my kids crazy because I will do the same thing, get all excited and get stuff in Target, and then I will come back to reality and realize it is not in my budget and sadly put it away.

Oh the wonderful land of temptation that is Target! I seriously have to go into that store with a mission to ONLY buy items X, Y and Z. If I don't have a mission I end up with a cart full of stuff, an empty wallet and a serious case of guilt.

Kudos for you to sticking with Damn Ramsey!

Excuse me, but where are the photos of fabulous cheap hairdo????? You are so strong! Target is my downfall. When my son was home from college at Christmas, his bathroom floor was soakin wet after every shower, so I ended up totally redecorating the bathroom after a visit to Target!

Just please make sure there are no spelling or grammar errors in your tattoo. Those things may not be pleasant anywhere, but there is nowhere worse for them to be than permanently on your body and in a prominent place. Don't worry, though. If you (or your tattoo artist) does make such a mistake, I will never let you know. I will just make references and rant on and on about it in the comments on some other blog.

I totally agree that Target is crack. I stopped by there after Na's ortho appointment on Monday. (Note to self: This is not the kid to help in moments of consumer weakness.) We were looking for some polka dotted placemats to finish off a project we started. It was a cheap decorating project--which had already been started as her Christmas present. They did not have the placemats at either of the Target stores we went to, but they did have a TON of stuff on sale in the home decor section. For some reason, I was drawn to all this bright, flowery, very feminine stuff which I love but which is not really my style and does not go at all in my house. I wanted to buy it and decorate a room in someone else's house. Or I wanted to buy the little tea towels and placemats to sew into cute aprons or something elses for gifts. It was very difficult to walk away from it all! I bought myself a $7.50 grey ruffled apron as a reward.

Um...Hello... Where's the picture of you & your new "do"? What's a post about April's hair without a picture?

p.s. Donna (1st comment) says it all. Next week Damn Ramsey is going to tell me to use those darn envelopes and I'm dreading it...

I have been trying so hard to be frugal, but it just isn't in my nature. I have resorted to never leaving the house.
Target is one of my favorite places, I dare not even drive past a Target, I am frightened my car will just turn in......

Hey April! :)

I wanted (need to get) your opinion on the envelope system.

I am looking at purchasing one but not sure which one to get or what the difference is. Help please! :-)

Which one do you have? the deluxe or designer?

Thanks!!

I feel your pain. I need new blinds/curtains so bad in our living room. I am at the moment using flat, mismatched bedsheets that are clipped to the curtain rods with clothespins. I have officially gone ghetto. *sigh*

I feel your pain...and I haven't even read the books. Alas, Hub and I are just buckling down because we know we should. Damn economy, damn economy, damn ecomomyyyyyyyyyyyyy. I'm slightly disappointed because I was hoping to see a pic of your new do. You'll be happy to know that on your advice I did not get bangs cut. I went to Hawaii bang-less... without bang...no bang, no buck. It was especially smart since the humidity would have had my new bangs sticking to my sweaty brow. Good thinking you frugal woman you.

I can't believe you did not post a pic of your new hair!!

We don't even have a Target in this small town! :p~~~
