Termites and Sweet Corn

One of my favorite housebloggers is Greg of The Petch House. He occasionally gives us small videos of his projects and it's really a great way to see what he's blogging about. Your dining room is really beautiful, I love the sweet corn color and can't wait to see the finished room.

Was that harvester machine just chopping down the corn stalks? Is it cattle corn or eating corn? When I was in college in Ohio many years ago (probably before you were born) some of us stole some corn from a huge corn field. It turned out to be the toughest most awful corn I've ever tried to eat. We found out later that the farmers planted the perimeter of their fields with cattle corn to discourage corn thieves!

Hi Kathy,

The combine mows the stalks, strips all the kernels off the cob then spits the "chaf" out the back of the combine, the kernels are stored in a huge hopper and when it gets full a tractor pulling a bige grain cart pulls alongside the combine and the comblne dumps the kernels into the cart while it continues to mow the stalks and then there's a lot more that happens after that, but that's the general idea.

Yes, it's called fielld corn, which is used primarly for livestock feed, you don't want to eat it, just decorate with it.

Love the color! Have you ever wondered who gives paint colors their names? I think I would like that job...

What a great house. I sure hope the termites are easy to get rid of and are contained to that one room! Love the color you've chosen - it's so sunny and inviting!

Oh you poor thing. Termites. I'm getting itchy just thinking about it. That sweet corn color is perfect. What will you do with the wood trim? Are you going to strip it down or just paint it?

Jean,
The trim has been painted recently and is in really good shape, so we're leaving it alone.

The second termite person just puledu p in my drive so we'll see what the damage is going to be!

That sweet corn color is nice. Interestingly, it seems just a tad lighter than the background color on your blog.
