The Farmhouse Diary

My sister thinks I write like an old woman pounding on a typewriter about the events that happen on my farm.

And she's kinda right. So....
Dear Farmhouse Diary,

Yesterday we spent our emergency fund repairing the well tank. I'm thankful for the emergency fund, but I sure hope nothing happens from now until we can get the ole emergency fund built up again.

I have washed clothes and run my dishwasher twice. I've mopped the floors and the best thing, I took a long hot shower. Running water, it's a wonderful thing.

Remember when I said I broke my vacuum? Yeah, I tried to fix it by taking out all the screws and then putting them back. You know what? My vacuum still doesn't work. Maybe if I bang it with a hammer.

But, the good thing is I have a central vacuum system in this house. I, uh, er, uh, forgot about it until I was talking to my friend and she was telling me about her central vac. Der. So, I was able to vacuum the house. Again, der.

I called to check on Virginia, my sweet-sweet-darling neighbor, this morning. She was crying because she was writing the thank-you notes to all the folks that had donated to the memorial fund for Ramone. She misses him so much, she told me how he made life so much fun, sitting at her table without him is hard. They were such a lovely pair, it doesn't seem right to have one without the other.

I'm so sad for her. I miss him too.

And, yet life keeps going.

We'll be getting new chicks this weekend and hopefully planting some seeds. I'm ready to work in the garden and feel the sun on my back.

That's it for now.

With love from Coal Creek Farm,

April~ the old lady pounding on her laptop

I'm glad that you have your water back! The little things make the world go round.

Loved your diary entry. :-)

I think it would be fun to live in your head sometimes. Thanks for the farm insights . You should go on the road and tell about your life and rescue chickens along the way.

It's very cruel of you to take me from laughing that you forgot you had a central vac to crying about Virginia missing Ramone. Damn! Please give Virginia an extra hug for me.

How in the heck do you forget you have a central vac?

Cynthia,
I know. duh, der, duh...
But, I never use it and I store all the hoses down in my basement.

If it can't be fixed by taking it apart and putting it back together, then banging it with a hammer, it's broke for good. So sayeth me.

And the Ramone stories continue to make me cry. Hard. So stop.

Glad to hear you finally have water! That is just the worst! I went 2 weeks one winter with no heat!!! Our propane tank ran out and they were too busy to get to us! Thank goodness that was before we had kids! Thanks for the comments on my blog about my Dave Ramsey question. We are on our way to getting with the program. We have our emergency fund almost fully funded, and I'm trying to find something pretty to hold my envelopes. I might just break down and order one from his site.

Dear OLPOHLT,

I hope you shoved those mean boys out of the way to get to your shower. Somehow it seems to me like it really was their fault. Somehow.

I love your pretty house, especially the little slats under the porch. Love it.

Very funny about the CV! Very "poor" as my DD says, about Virginia... we'll pray for her...

With love from Central Mass (not Central Vac, alas, at least I don't think so, maybe I should check!),

I love your pounding at the typewriter posts. I totally get ya. Love running water. Especially when it's hot and you need a shower. Love a good vacuum. Is a central vac any different ... like in sucking power? Does it do a good job? Love new chicks ... you'll have to post baby photos. So sad for Virginia. Please keep checking on her.

We never realize just how lucky to have so many things till those "little" things go out.. Glad you have your water back... Looks like a beautiful setting in your photo. Great post...

Can we go with you to get the chicks? I used to love playing with our baby chicks when I was little. I still think you should hatch your own eggs instead of buying them though.

Beautiful house.

What's a central vac sys?

And so sad about Virginia missing Ramone.

Did you check to see if the belt snapped on the vacuum? Nine times out of ten that's what's happened. It's an easy fix and they only cost a couple of dollars.

Rhea,
A central vac is a system that you plug a vac hose into the wall and it starts to vacuum, the dirt is collected in a big can in my basement. It's a nice system, but lugging all the hoses around is a giant pain in the arse.

Renovation T,
Yes, I checked the belt first. I accidentally ran over a big screw that was on the floor and it got caught somewhere and now the whole thing won't work. I'm a dummy.

Well, I for one enjoy the musings of the old lady writing about her farm. :)

I feel so bad for Virginia. How will she live without Ramone? It just doesn't seem fair. I know it's part of life, blah blah, but it stinks.

You should just keep doing what you've been doing; you're a great pounder, writer.

Your home is lovely! I'm so sorry for Virginia; I know she's going to have a tough time for a while. I'm glad you're her neighbor, though, and there for her.

Your forgetting you have a central vac system reminded me of when I "forgot" that my old Toyota Corona did actually have AC - but I told my friend it was broken and we drove all the way to Greenville and back with no AC - sweating to death. I had really forgotten that it had AC. Big Der.

EVEN IF SISTERS THINK THEY KNOW WHAT THEIR TALKING ABOUT, THEY DON'T ALWAYS. I'LL BET SHE'S OLDER, RIGHT?!

I CAN JUST IMAGINE WHAT MY SISTER THINKS ABOUT MY GRAMMAR,NOT TO MENTION SPELLING IN MY BLOG.
GLAD SHE LOVES ME. YOUR SISTER CRACKS ME UP.
BUT THEN AGAIN, SO DO YOU.

HUGS FROM MAINE
