Amen and Amen.
I'm still recommending Unplug the Christmas Machine. It's a great Christmas read!

When my relatives were here Thanksgiving and it was time to draw names for gifts I asked what else we could do this year instead of our usual. After discussion we decided to have a "white elephant" exchange which can be anything - handmade, recycled, etc. and it's just for fun. The little cousins are going to make an ornament and Christmas cookies to exchange. Can you believe they were okay with not shopping at the toy store?
This was a big relief because I didn't think a "no gifts" Christmas would fly with everyone.
Two days later, my husband lost his job. For the first time in our lives we have no income. Didn't think we'd ever be an unemployment statistic.
My dad grew up poor and always said the best gifts were homemade.

It's wonderful. I wish I hadn't done my shopping so early. (guilt)

wow
This did make me tear up a little.

My boss actually made a donation in my name for Christmas to this foundation - living water.

This video is how I feel about Christmas - I hate the shop shop shop for crap just because it's "tradition". What if we made a new tradition?

I've seen this before. I like the message.

I do think we should DO more and share more than buy, buy, buy.

I wonder how much they spent on this commercial though...to get the message out. And what that money could have done.

UGH> I cried, too.

I love this, I am going to put it on my blog, also.

You are one smart cookie, April.

Spend less, give more; wonderful, wonderful!

We're working on it here. We aren't there yet, but we're working on it.

This year my mom's main present is a certificate to come in and thoroughly clean her house once a month. My house doesn't get *thoroughly* cleaned once a month, but she has a very small house and a cat that sheds like crazy and keeps her allergic daughter and grandson from visiting more often or staying long. And she needs the help to stay on top of it. And I know her well enough to know she'll be thrilled rather than offended. She has good reasons for needing a little extra help. I already have the masks and allergy pills ready.

AMEN!

Thanks for sharing. This is what we have been doing. We help another family in our community.

How awesome if we all gave to one cause!!!
