Dave Ramsey Envelope System Giveaway!!!

***Times UP Kiddos***
I'll announce the winner sometime tomorrow.

Last night was our last Damn Ramsey class. Every Sunday night for the last 13 weeks we've gone to a class where we watched a DVD of Dave Ramsey talking on a stage in front of an audience. He's very entertaining and I have to say, he's also a very large corn ball. Clay and I made fun of him quite a bit, but he's got a very good way of getting a point across and he's entertaining in a corn ball sort of way.

I would highly recommend taking the class, but if you don't have $100 to spend on a class then go check out his books at the library and get started on you're debt corn ball...oh, wait, that's supposed to be debt snowball.

"But April, it's Christmas! I can't start paying off my debt right now!"

Why?

"Because I neeeeeeeed to use my credit card to pay for all those gifts!"

Says who? Jesus?

This is the best time to start. Right now. Stop spending money that you don't have. Be creative with your giving this year. Be honest with those that you love and tell them you are broke and you don't want to be broke anymore. Just say Merry Christmas, I love you, here's some cookies. It's really not that painful. Okay, I know pride is painful. Poke that pride in the pooper!

To help you get started I'm going to give away one of the Financial Peace Deluxe Envelope Systems.

Look, it has slots for DEBIT cards not CREDIT cards.
And here's those lucious, creamy colored envelopes. I know you want them.
Ooooooh, I wish I had this. I love the pen and notepad. I'm forever making lists on scraps of napkins or the back of my hand. How nice would it be to have a little pad built right into my envelope holder? Very nice, very very nice.
Yummy brown leather-ish will carry around all your cash. You know, cash, that paper stuff we used to use before plastic money was created?

"Oh, April! I neeeeeeed it! I want it! I will start using it the second I get it! How do I enter your give away?"

Glad you asked oh desperate one.

Here's what to do:

1. Leave a comment.

That's it. Now let's go over the rules:

1. One entry per household.
2. Giveaway ends December 9th at midnight CST.

and

If you win this little thing and you become debt free using this, I want you to buy another one and give it to somebody who could use some financial guidance. M-kay?

i want to be out of debt.....

i am so sick of the huge interest pit that chomps all that money that could buy me some really cute shoes!

i am also swallowing the pride this year and putting away the plastic. people will receive an "i love you" and "merry christmas" with chex mix!

love ya lots, rebecca

My husband would croak if I started following that system. Fall dead on the floor, come back to life, and love me forever croak.

You have inspired me! I was so not looking forward to buying yet more gift cards for people because I have NO idea what they want, and that have enough money to buy whatever they want, anyway. I quickly came up with three shipping-friendly recipes, and will be sending each of them a package of home-baked holiday goodies. The cost will be about 1/10 what I would have spent, but I'm guessing it'll be enjoyed 10X as much.

i LOVE you april...did you know that??? and i miss you tons! i am actually reading a book and the main character kinda reminds me of you....again, i LOVE and MISS you!!!!!

I need this. I need it because I tried the website Mvelopes, and it did not work at all for me, because I kept forgetting about it. Something that I can touch and feel is so much nicer, and harder to forget about or lose. Unless my golden retriever takes the leatherish bound wallety thing off the desk to chew it up, in which case, that would be bad. But I would take care of it if I win! I promise!

Oh, and I'm horribly in debt due to some of my own stupidity, and some due to the stupidity of my ex-husband.

MamaHen said...

OH, please pick me!!!! We are in the process of adopting a little girl and need to come with a big wad of cash soon and this would help me get organized.

Anonymous said...

I desperately need this! Pretty pretty please! With sugar on top! And cool whip! And nuts! And a CHERRY!!!!!

Anonymous said...

I'm trying so hard. Maybe this could be the answer I'm looking for.

Bridge said...

Oh, I would love this so much!

Anonymous said...

Pick me! Pick me! I'm so bad at organization and budgets. This looks to be the tool I could really use....and my uber-organized husband would love it as well!

Joy said...

I am trying so hard to keep on top of our budget. But I lack. Perhaps this will help me. But only if I win.

So, pick me!

Oh, I so want to win this! My husband just lost his job, so finances are REALLY tight right now. Dave Ramsey is my hero and it's my dream to be able to say we've paid off all our debt!

Stephanie in Idaho said...

Oh April, this is a GREAT giveaway. Pick me!

I need to be out of debt! Actually I have an 'improvised' envelope system that would be nice to chuck in the trash and do it the right way...

After I remove the $4 I have in there until the 15th, that is.

Checked out Dave's Total Money Make-over from the church library months ago. Have started implementing a great deal of his suggestions. Just finished paying for our van. Have three more months (with debt snowball) to pay off the daughter's used Toyota. Now I really NEED this envelope system. Please, please, please pick me. I can do those eyes your daughter was doing on the dance lesson video if it'll help. OK???

April, I need this. I am scared of it, but I think I need it.

Debt is such a scary thing to confront, much less tackle. I admire you for doing it...and for spreading the system.

May to Today said...

I have read some of Dave Ramsey's books and I am envious that you have stuck with the program. I would love to have the envelope system for my very own!

Anonymous said...

My daughter and son in law took the course and are paying off their debt. It has trickled down to me and I am using his system too.

Anonymous said...

Yup, you're wonderful. And I like the plan of passing along the favor to another when successful with this. (Note the "when" not "if".)

Thanks, April.

Unknown said...

I need it! I want it! And I'll give another one away when I'm debt free, which will hopefully be before the birth of my grandchildren* b/c I have over $70K in student loan debt ALONE! Oh, & for Christmas I'm making PW Cinnamon Rolls :)

* I have not yet had children!

Sarah said...

I will definitely pass this on when I get out of debt. My husband and I are trying to pursue this on our own, but I think we could use a system.

Danielle said...

ooo, it's my birthday tomorrow! And I could use this, like you don't even know. What a great give-away!

Patty said...

Pick me, Pick me, pick me! My husband would love you for helping me organize our debt. God Bless, Patty pdd955@aol.com

Leila said...

I so agree with you about starting NOW -- why should we spend all that money on all that junk?
Even if you have the money, you should think carefully about loading people up with junk.

Gladys said...

I like that you have a pay it forward clause. I also love Dave Ramsey and REALLY need one of these. You know I really do think you are the prettier sister but don't tell CDW that.

It is very hard for us not to use our credit cards being self employed we use them to purchase materials and travel. I do however try to pay them off at the end of every month.

Anonymous said...

Oh, I need this envelope thingy!

Joan S said...

We need to use something like this now more than ever!!

Anonymous said...

We totally need this! Went out and borrowed the book from the library right after your 1st post about Damn Ramsey, started listening to the free parts of his podcast. Still trying to get that whole budget thing down, but it makes me wanna just move to a cave and live off bugs and dirt and stuff... but not really, yuck. I hope we are picked. I am in agreement of paying it forward.

Leslie said...

Pick me! Pick me! I thought that was what you were supposed to say...
I love your blog and thanks for all of the laughs!

Anonymous said...

Oh April, paying it forward it such a great idea. I so need a new system to get my debt paid off and away. When I am able to get out from uder this horrible pile of bills, I would be thrilled to pay it forward as well!

Anonymous said...

I really need this April :) I just got married and we found out we're already pregnant (a little earlier than expected) and finances are very tight. We're working on getting out of debt and getting financially stable. This would be such a help.

Brindi said...

I enjoy your posts about dancing and 80's style much more than this post about debt. Talking/reading about debt makes my stomach knot up. I guess that's a sign of how large my problem is. I must need this.

Leah said...

Need it ... bad! I may have to lock my husband in the basement for a few years while I work on the debt. Just kidding. I don't have a basement.

I love stuff like this...so simple, and yet, so organizing. I wish my life were simple and organized.

I would love to win this, need to win this. Definitely need some organizational help in the debt dept. My lists are on backs of notebooks, scraps or paper, toilet paper rolls.... Okay, maybe that last bit was a stretch, but you know what I mean.

Jennifer said...

oooooh! pick me! large homeschooling family, stay at home mom, one income, fixer upper house.... you get the idea. and i think that you are WAY funnier than your sister!

Unknown said...

In a very serious way...I really do need this. I have tried everything but no system seems to work. I own the Dave Ramsey book and workbook and the book on CD. I'll be honest, I haven't listened or read all of it. The Hubs has though. But I am the one with the problem of spending. I have gotten MUCH better since we got married but I still have a long way to go. I was never taught how to save money and that is one thing I DO NOT want to pass on to my children. I sure hope I win this, but if not, I will pray it shows up under my tree. Thank you for the opportunity. :-) God Bless!!

I've been doing the 'envelope' system for a few years now. Except my 'envelopes' were ziploc baggies clipped together. Very ghetto...but debt-free ghetto. :o)

The Source said...

April...we're working hard on reducing our debt with a goal in mind...I want my youngest two kids OUT of public school. Yesterday. If I won the envelope system I know I'd go out and buy one for my SISTER who just bought an xbox 360 on credit for her 5 year old...because he had to SHARE with the other two boys in the house. Does it come with a brick to knock sense into people??

Dea said...

Do I "need" this? - Not really.
Do I "want" this? - Not really.
Do I "gotta have" this? - Nope.

Would I like it? Yes, I would.

Thank you for your consideration.
And to ask to get one for someone
else is a great idea!

I would really like to have this! Great way to start the New Year!!

You can't win if you don't enter. That's why I'm leaving my comment this morning. Thanks for the giveaway and ideas. I've actually got my husband looking at Dave Ramsey. I've heard so many people singing Dave's praises . . . there's got to be something to it.

I happened to have found your blog by chance, and I just bought the Financial Peace University book not too long ago. My husband and I really, really, REALLY need to start using this system.
Please pick me. I would be so appreciative.

I could totally use help in the budget department. Does it also come with some kind of budget pills that I could give my husband and daughter so they would go along with it, too? They are my biggest challenge.

And if I win, I will definitely pay it forward.

Anonymous said...

Ooooh. I really need this. If I win, when it has started me on the path to debt freedom, I will spread out several of these to my family and friends that are like me now. Thanks!

I'm really working hard on getting out of debt. Using my debit card instead of my credit cards, especially at the store. It keeps me from overspending.

Anonymous said...

I would love to try this and see if it works.

Ok, entering for my sister DAWN here. She refuses to get into the world wide web...so I have to do it for her. She and my brother in law are taking this class and she would so LOVE this. What a great giveaway for the holidays.

Janet said...

Pick me, pick me! :) Love these principles but haven't used them since we were first married. I just told my 13 yo to stick some cash in an envelope for savings. She did it!

PS. I loved the DWTS video!

AMAC1978 said...

This is really cool..I have seen similar things in action...I work at a bank and one gentleman every week had specific denominations he asked for and finally he told me he has an envelope thing he does to budget his money...I just have to get rid of my cards so I can have cash to spend. But I am making my FINAL car payment this month...SOOOO I am about to have some cash to spend wisely!! YAY!!

Anonymous said...

OHMYFREAKINGOODNESS! SERIOUSLY? SERIOUSLY! I had no idea that this kind of wonderful thing existed. I totally need this. It might save my marriage. However, are you sure Jesus doesn't want me to spend just a little money? At Gymboree? I mean, I do have three girls I have to keep looking holy and precious in church on Sundays. AND they're having a sale. AND I have a 20% off coupon . . . ok. You're right. I should just watch Grey's Anatomy on the TiVo. (and flip through that Hanna Andersson catalog!) Do you see how badly I need that nifty thing?????

=) =)

I know this giveaway is closed but I have to ask a question about this wallet thingy. Can you add more envelopes? I'm just not seeing how it can be done. I was thinking about buying these from Dave Ramsey's website but I wanted to make sure I could add or remove envelopes to fit my needs. Thanks!
