It's time I told you about the day.....

I locked myself in the chicken coop.

It was an accident, I swear.

I wanted the door shut so I could capture one of the hens that had been overly pecked.  Because, you know, I'm a chicken doctor.   But, I shut the door a bit too much and it, it, it locked me in.

I had the hen secured under my arm and I started yelling for "Ellllllen" and "Seththththth".  But they couldn't hear me.  Because they were inside watching a movie!  With their cousins!  And they had the volume on FULL BLAST!!!!

So, I started yelling louder and Louder and LOUDER!

And that's what brought the rooster into the coop to investigate.

Do you know what a rooster does when he sees a crazy yelling woman handling one of his hens?  That's right.  He attacks.

So, now I'm SCREAMING  Somebody PLEASE HELP ME!!!  While I'm kicking a pissed off rooster.

Of course the more I screamed for help the more he attacked me.  Finally, I let him have it and he scampered back outside just long enough for me to decide my only escape was to dismantle the leg on the feeder and use it to pry open the door.  So, that's what I did.

Man was I ticked.  And shaky.  And pissed.  And angry.  And a little out of my mind crazy.

I needed someone to blame because it was obviously not my fault that I locked myself in the coop and like always nobody came to rescue me!

My destination was the house to eat my young.  Or just spit fire on them until they were nice and charred, then I would  feed them to the chickens.

I asked my two oldest children to reenact the whole scene.  Notice Ellen's new braceless smile!

And ACTION!

Oh, that's good. Really good. I love the re-enactments.

I can't believe you got stuck in the chicken coop. Holding a hen. Attacked by a rooster.

I bet your sister is never gonna let you live this one down.

ho ho ho... hee hee hee... I laughed EXTRA hard at this because just a few weeks ago I accidentally locked myself in the chicken coop at the neighbours, while the water was left running in their watering containers outside, and nobody knew I was there, and I panicked BIG time. I ended karate chopping the door down. So I take great glee in not being the only chicken to lock herself in the chicken coop.

Well, this certainly makes me feel better about breaking into my own house and setting off the alarm :)

I love the re-enactments as well. It is interesting to see their different perspectives, but for some reason, without even knowing you...I think they were pretty close to the reality. I can just imagine the fear you had of being locked in with the chickens! I would have been in tears.

Tell your daughter, beautiful smile. Congratulations.

Can't wait for the next episode.

Ohmigosh, you are so funny. I love Ellen's body language - I have a feeling she's got you down pat! So glad you survived the Great Chicken Caper.

Too funny, that sounds like something that could have happened to me. I love the re-enactments at the end too.

You're brave! I wouldn't let my kids reenact my actions after an incident like that. How funny, though!

I was attacked by a goose once. Still have nighmares.

I'm very scared of fowl for this very reason.
I like eating them though.

This reminds of the day a rooster chased me across my yard. I was running like crazy screaming, into the house.

So glad you were able to escape the wrath of a pissed off rooster. No telling what might have happened if you hadn't gotten outa there. The reenactments were academy award winning performances.

Best post ever April! Love it.

I wasn't there, but I'd guess Seth nailed it best.

Ellen's smile is beautiful! Yay for no more braces!

My daughters thought this was too funny! I would never tape my kids reenacting me. It would be scarey. Plus they can't say the F word! I say it alot... I'm told

Too funny! This made me laugh out loud. I did smother my laughter for a second or two out of respect for the fact that I am sure it wasn't too funny to you at the time! Of course, you must have seen the humor in it to allow the kiddos those re-enactments.

Love the braces-free, beautiful smile!

Too funny. And you are one brave woman to let your children do that for public viewing. Thanks for the laugh. Margie

So the rooster attacked you? My poor dear.
Just a suggestion I would carry my cell phone with me at all times. That way when you get stranded in the Chicken Pen you could call up the designer who built the chicken pen to come and fix the faulty door......Then I would call the house phone. But be sure and call the designer. Yes I am sure that would help.

But then again the door might be out of warranty.

Great Blog, Seth & Ellen great job acting out your mom.You two are so talented.
Those teeth how they sparkle.

Love Ya all

Hilarious! I LOVE that you totally got your kids involved in the 'fun'. Your mom said it so right.. My, how those teeth sparkle!

No, I have never locked myself in the chicken coop - but lets just say I WOULD, if I had one. I am that silly sometimes. Glad to know that I would be in good company!

Thanks for the giggle this morning! I have to admit that my co-workers think I am losing it when I start giggling and can't stop! They just don't understand how FUNNY you are!

I feel for you, being locked in the chicken coop and being attacked by the rooster.....I know just how you feel. We have 9, Yes, 9 roosters in our flock......two of them just love to attack me everytime I go in to do the chicken chores. They are my daughters 4-H projects. I was the one that wanted the chickens in the first place, I just had to use her and 4-H as my excuse for getting them. Now I run like a frightened child from the coop when the roosters attack.......they love my painted toenails......oh, maybe I shouldn't go in the coop with flip-flops on........

april- you are too funny! i laughed out loud when i read that! hope you enjoyed your lunch yesterday! we had an attack rooster once, too. pretty scary!

I totally feel your pain--I too have had the unfortunate experience of being locked in the chicken coop! Thank God my family can pretty much hear me no matter where they are or what they are doing!--I've been told I am, shall we say, not the quiet spoken type... Anyway, we also have an attack rooster--I can be found chasing him around the chicken coop kicking wildly at least one day out of every week as he seems to think that when I have my back to him is the best time for attack, and it just so happens that I have to have my back to him when I get the feed...HMMM maybe we should rearrange the feed barrel... At any rate--it hurts to be attacked by a rooster who knows what he is doing. Although it offers much entertainment for anyone who may be watching and listening from the outside of the coop--just ask my husband! :)
You are SO funny--and I love your sisters sense of humor/writing as well, it must run in the family!
God bless you!

The funniest part is that Ellen acted EXACTLY like you in previous videos. She's got you down pat!

If I posted my own re-enactment after something similar it would simply be one long bllllleeeeeeppppp.

I've watched these videos at work 3 times now! I love this story!

Haha! That is hilarious. I'm sorry, but we must laugh with you on this one.
I actually had a similar experience once, except the jumping goat actually caused me to be locked in the grain bin of the barn. I dropped my shoes down from the rafters to try and knock the hook off the lock, but had to sit and scream and wait until my brother found me.
He laughed and I cried.

I watched this yesterday and laughed so hard I thought I would die. Your kids are hysterical. Of course they have some pretty good material to work with. Getting locked in the chicken coop! You just can't make this stuff up.
